In the estate known as 'Vilar de Povill' there have been found
many remains that prove the roman were the first settlers in town.
The name of the village comes from the Arab period. The name 'Abrahim'
appears in some documents from the 10th century and in others from
the 16th century appears as Bràfim. Some historians, though,
believe that Bràfim comes from the Jewish 'Ibrahim'. In 1159,
bishop Guillem de Torroja from Barcelona granted a population permit
for the territory.
In
1428, a hospital was founded in the town's main street as last will
of Anton Rovira. Bràfim has always been a farming village,
but was also known by its wood dealers in the 15th century and the
silkworm breeding in the 18th century.
In 1706, noble Patrician Joan Fans, landlord of Mas d'en Fans and
Baron on Vilardida, died without an heir asnd left all his possessions
to the new church of Bràfim that enjoyed a remarkable splendour
and was considered as a small cathedral at those times.
In 1721,Marià Martí Estalella was born in town, He
became bishop of Puerto Rico and Caracas, where he died in 1792.
For 12 years he travelled around the diocese of Veneçuela,
which meant a great pastoral task as well as an important compilation
of anthropological information that helped write many books about
the history of that country.
During the war of El Francès (1810), the French occupied
the town and profaned the church. In 1813, the repeated the occupation
and burnt down 23 houses. In the Carline Wars, Bràfim lived
several episodes and the church and the rectory were used as a fortress.

Sanctuary
of La Mare de Déu del Loreto
This sanctuary is located on top of a round hill. Also the municipal
cemetery was purposely located at the foot of that hill so the dead
rest eternally near the Mother of God.
This Neoromanesque temple was built towards the end on the 19th
century over an old shrine from 1664. The wood image of the Mother
of God was placed in a room with great fresco paintings and stained
glass works.
The
sanctuary and its surrounding area, covered with pine and olive
trees, are a perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful day. There is also
plenty of picnic tables, fountains, fire places and a bar to cover
the necessities of the visitors.
The
Church of Sant Jaume.
This church is located in the town main's square and worships Sant
Jaume. In its interior there is a beatiful golden Baroque altarpiece
and an organ, both valuables.
The Town Hall
The Town Hall is located in front of the church and was built in
1929 by architect Cèsar Martinell.
